Google Pixel 2 XL vs. Galaxy Note 8 vs. LG V30 vs. iPhone 8 Plus: Which one is better?

We have decided to compare the specifications and features of some of the best cell phones advertised this year: Pixel 2 XL, Galaxy Note 8, LG V30 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Google introduced the second generation of its flagship phones, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Although both phones share many similarities of their specifications with each other, it is clear that the Pixel 2 XL has some improvements compared to its little brother and that is why we will use the XL for this comparative.

The Google Pixel 2 XL integrates many of the high-end specifications we’ve seen on its rival cell phones, including a Snapdragon 835 processor, which comes in the Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30.

However, the processor of the LG V30 has a maximum top speed (2.45GHz, while the other two have been programmed to reach just 2.35GHz).

The Pixel 2 XL integrates 4GB of RAM (like the LG V30) and 64GB and 128GB storage options while the Galaxy Note 8 has 6GB of RAM, but only available with 64GB of storage.

The LG and Samsung cell phones integrate a microSD card slot, which allows you to easily expand the storage, something that did not offer by Pixel XL and the iPhone 8 Plus, the best Apple phone you can buy today (at least until that the iPhone X arrives).

Although the Pixel 2 XL does not have a microSD slot, it is good to know that Google is offering unlimited storage of photos and videos (in their original quality) until 2020.

Among all the cell phones in this group, the iPhone 8 Plus is the only one with a 256GB version of storage. This is very good, but it is also more expensive than having a microSD card of the same capacity for Samsung and LG cell phones.

Of this group, the Pixel 2 XL is the only one that runs Android Oreo right from the factory, but it is a matter of time for the Galaxy Note 8 and the LG V30 to receive the update, very sure before the end of this year – at least for the first users.

Camera and photos

All cell phones in this group have a double back camera – except the Google phone. However, Google offers the same function of photos with a bokeh using only a lens.

The LG V30 is the one that offers a unique combination of all because it integrates a wide-angle lens that gives a view of a GoPro in a cell phone, while the other lens is regular. The other dual camera phones focus on providing a regular lens (or less than the V30) while using the other lens to zoom in just like what we found in Infinix Zero 5.

Of all these phones, the Pixel 2 XL is the first to incorporate the artificial intelligence of Google Lens that allows you to recognize books, places and more, as well as the possibility of just scanning the label of a router to automatically connect to the network Wi-Fi. The Pixel 2 XL is also the only one in this group that allows you to tighten its side edges, such as HTC U11, to activate a function – in this case Google Assistant. However, you can also press it when you have it in your pocket to mute the cell phone.

Design, Accessories, Screens

There is no doubt that the Galaxy Note 8 is the most complete of all these cell phones, as it integrates a stylus with a lot of functions, more flexibility of multiventana and can become a kind of desktop. It also has iris scanner, facial recognition and can be loaded wirelessly.

Both the Pixel 2 and the LG V30 feature facial recognition, while the LG cell phone and the iPhone 8 Plus are also compatible with the Qi wireless charge.

As for screen resolution, the Galaxy Note 8 is the one that offers the best with 2, 960×1,440 pixels and is followed by the LG V30 and the Pixel 2 XL that have a screen with a resolution of 2,880×1,440 pixels. The iPhone 8 Plus only has a resolution of 1,920×1, 080 pixels. As for screen size, Note 8 is the largest (6.3 inches), followed by LG’s and Google’s (6 inches) and finally the Apple’s cell (5.5 inches.

Despite this, the LG cell phones are the most compact, thanks to its very small bezels, while the iPhone 8 Plus is the one with the largest bezels of all these phones.

Of all these, the LG V30 is the lightest (158 grams), while the iPhone 8 Plus is the heaviest (202 grams).

The LG V30 and Galaxy Note 8 integrate a traditional headphone connector (3.5mm), something that does not exist in Google Pixel 2 XL or iPhone 8 Plus.

As for the battery, the Google Pixel 2 XL will not possibly disappoint you: it has a 3,520mAh battery, which compares to a battery of 3,300mAh in Note 8 and LG V30. The iPhone 8 Plus has a battery of 2,691mAh.

All of these cell phones are water resistant, but while the Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30 have a certification that allows them to be submerged in pure water up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes, the Google Pixel 2 XL and the iPhone 8 Plus have the IP67 certification that allows only being submerged in pure water for up to 30 minutes at a lower depth.

We then compare the specifications, features and other features of the Google Pixel 2 XL with the Galaxy Note 8, LG V30 and iPhone 8 Plus to better understand their differences.
